It’s been another interesting week on the online poker front, and as legalized online poker in New Jersey draws ever closer the industry is abuzz with growing excitement and anticipation.
In this week’s column we’ll take a look at a recent endorsement for PokerStars in New Jersey that should have the company doing cartwheels and back-flips, we’ll also take a look at the recently concluded bwin WPT National Series in Barcelona, a recent interview with Sky Poker Pro Julian Thew, as well as the latest news from Bet365 Poker and Terminal Poker.
The latest stop on the World Poker Tour (WPT) National Series was in Barcelona for the bwin Barcelona Championship. The €1,650 buy-in Main Event featured two starting flights on October 10th and 11th, which saw a decent field of 132 players turn out.
The final table was played on October 14th, and here is how things shook out according to the World Poker Tour website:
1. Robert Mats Eriksson -- €52,000
2. Joel Roset -- €36,000
3. Pawel Brzeski -- €23,000
4. Mihail Morozovs -- €17,000
5. Angel Funes -- €13,000
6. Isidre Just -- €10,200
7. Andrew Ayad -- €8,500
8. Corbin White -- €7,000

One of the architects of New Jersey’s online gaming legislation that was enacted into law this year has endorsed PokerStars, as State Senator Ray Lesniak was quoted by PokerNews.com as saying:
"The biggest and the bestest with the mostest is going to have a presence here in New Jersey."
While it might not be the most grammatically correct endorsement in the history of the world (in fact it sounds like one of those “what’s better, more or less” commercials with the five year olds), it’s still sends a powerful message regarding PokerStars chances of receiving approval from the New Jersey Division of Gaming Enforcement (DGE) when their applications comes up for review.
PokerStars has joined forces with the Resorts Casino in New Jersey, and not only are they planning on providing the casino with their online gaming software, but PokerStars has also pledged to add a $10 million poker room to the property… just another reason, among many, that PokerStars would be a boon to the New Jersey gambling industry.
Right now all new players can sign up for PokerStars $20 free bankroll offer.
Sky Poker’s resident poker pro Julian Thew is no stranger to UK poker fans, but the three-time GUKPT Champion (the only man to accomplish that feat) and EPT winner is a bit less known in the US, as he spends most of his time playing in UK tournaments. If you ask me it’s a bit of a shame that so few US players are aware of Thew’s extensive resume.
Perhaps after a recent PokerNews.com feature a few more US poker fans will take notice of Julian, as he describes his life in poker as well as how he balances family life with the tough grind of a poker pro.
If you would like to get started at Julian Thew’s home site of Sky Poker you can participate in the site’s £10 instant bankroll offer.
