It’s been a busy week at Sky Poker Mobile as the site has taken the next step towards a fully working version of their app/site by allowing cash game players playing from an iPad to access their brand new cash game lobby.
But first up, high street casino giants Dusk Till Dawn have announced a change in strategy due to the demands of the increasingly competitive UK poker market, as announced by their owner Rob Yong via his popular blog post.
In the UK poker scene, Dusk Till Dawn Casino owner Rob Yong has always been a popular figure, thanks to his candour and openness, often transmitted via his well-followed blog and in a recent blog post, he shared his thoughts on the future of the UK poker scene and how this was altering his vision for his casino.
Yong pointed out that the “UK poker market has become increasingly congested” and that this was resulting in too many tournaments over too few weekends.
As such, Yong has restructured how his DTD casino will focus and their main strategy now focuses on producing four events a year, in partnership with two of the biggest names in UK poker, Sky Poker and PokerStars.
The four poker festivals have been named as:
In addition to focusing on these events, Yong is reducing the amount of rake his casino takes from pots to keep poker players in his real world casino happy.
Of course, in the online world, there is huge anticipation to see what is to be announced for November, with rumours of a £1m guaranteed tournament on the horizon, with players likely to be able to qualify for the event from the partner online poker site.
Keep your eyes peeled for more on this news over the coming weeks.
In other news this week, Sky Poker have been working hard on improving its current mobile poker offering and this week, they have rolled out a new and significant change to the lobby, though at present only for cash game players via iPad.
When the beta version of the site was released, Sky did point out that some features of the existing lobby did not work fully and that a new lobby was being designed. It now seems as if this design is in the final stages of testing as it has been unrolled to cash table users via iPad.
Sky Poker have announced that they will make the decision about when to make the lobby available to other mobile and tablet devices when they have received feedback about the current version from iPad users.
The new version is missing some features, such as player lists for each table, but does look cleaner and crucially some of the bugs that afflicted the older version of the lobby do seem to have been eradicated in the newer version.
It is thought that if Sky Poker follow the same process as they did with the original mobile software, a few months after this release, the site may make the lobby available for Sit & Go and MTTs too, depending on the number of bugs and issues that users find with the new lobby software.
You can try the new lobby by loading up the Sky Poker site on your iPad and then clicking on Cash Games, which will load up the new lobby software. The remainder of the site is still operating on the older version of the software.
Sky Poker have also said that there is no news yet on when the app version of their software will be released.
